Basingstoke member and Nets superstar, Lou Grainger, gave a shining performance at the Indoor Netball World Championships in South Africa as part of the England squad. Although they didn’t come away with the final trophy, Lou and her team did a spectacular job, proving themselves worthy contenders throughout the games.
“We’ve trained hard for the last year on the build up to the competition. Our sessions consist of weekend camps in Birmingham for 5/6 hours each day working on skills, match play and tactics. We have to maintain a high level of fitness in our own time. I train at Basingstoke Sports Centre 4-5 times a week where I have a personal trainer to work on strength, CV fitness and core work.
I also regularly use the netball post in the sports hall where I put up 150-200 shots daily either here or at work. It’s really important that I keep the training up as we are currently gold medallists- winning the 7’s competition at the last World Cup in New Zealand.”
