IMPORTANT MESSAGE FOR MEMBERS & CUSTOMERS
You may already be aware that we have been instructed by HM Government to close our facilities at the end of today. We will, therefore, not be open from tomorrow, Saturday 21 March 2020.
We will be in contact with you, providing regular updates through email and via the website and Facebook pages.
We know that physical activity becomes especially important at times of crisis and that it has a significant positive impact on our mental health too. Because of this, we’ve been working hard to find a way to help you remain active when you’re at home and so are pleased to tell you that we’re buying into an ‘at home’ virtual fitness platform. This will provide you with around 400 different classes plus fitness tests, workout programmes and challenges.
For ALL those members (fitness, rackets, swimming and swim school) who retain their membership through this difficult time, we’ll make this virtual streaming platform available to you free of charge. Whilst the platform only provides one User Profile, there’s no reason why you can’t get other members of the household exercising with you too. We’ll email all of you again about how to access this early next week.
For those members that take up this offer, we’ll continue to make the platform available to you totally free of charge for up to 6 months after the Government announces we can reopen.
We’re also working hard with staff to record exercise videos that our specialist populations can continue to use at home for those undertaking Cardiac rehab, GP referral (Active in Health), Cancer rehab and Parkinson’s.
For those that wish to suspend your memberships, we will do this for you at no cost to yourself. There will be no monthly fee to suspend from tomorrow. We will only reactivate it once the facilities are available to you again. Should you wish to do this, please email us at [email protected]
BUT before you do, we would ask you to reconsider. BST (Basingstoke Sports Trust) is a local community registered charity (no. 301731). We’ve been in existence since 1965 and this year is our 55th Birthday. We are completely independent and do not receive any financial support from any organisation, public or private. The funds we use to provide our services, facilities and health programmes come from you. If you can afford it, we would be tremendously humbled if you would leave your direct debit in place to help support us through this incredibly difficult period.
Although it appears we will get help with wages from the Government, almost half of our expenditure each month is on items such as equipment, leases and utilities. This equates to almost £150,000 per month. Without your support, it is highly likely that the charity will go out of business in the next few months and not be here for you or your children in the future. We would urge you to consider treating your direct debit as a donation and a way to support the charity.
We are immensely grateful for your custom to date. Please stay safe and look after yourself and your families.
The Team at BST
